Backup, Backup, backup

As we close out the month of June AKA "Backup Month", I thought it would be helpful to share some advice passed to to me from Scott Gardner of Optimac, Inc with regard to automating the office backup routine. Although the advice was specific to MacPractice (our office EMR), I've extended his advice to include all of the office applications.

1. Local backup:

Practice Fusion (mini review)

Most recently, there has been a great deal of “buzz” around Practice Fusion's EMR offering. Upon initial pass, it clearly has a very user-friendly environment with a fair amount of customization. Two glaring downsides, however are:
1. Lack of iPad/iPhone compatibility
2. No integration with voice recognition software, ala MacSpeech Dictate or, to the best of my knowledge, Dragon Naturally Speaking

iSlate or whatever it will be called

I, like many of you I suspect, am anxiously awaiting Apple’s upcoming announcement, if the rumor mills prove accurate. In reading through Don McAllister’s post, I couldn’t help but be reminded of the massive utility an “iSlate” product would have during a typical office day.

Although I use my iPhone in nearly every encounter (coupled with an iMac in each patient room), the utility of having a larger, although still portable, device to use in interacting with patients will be a Godsend:
- reviewing radiology images
- showing/viewing procedural videos

Transition

Well, our sincere thanks for everyone who has visited and contributed since the site revision. We're still having a few hang-ups here and there, particularly with formatting of forum comments. Regardless, we're getting there.

Our sincere thanks to all of the referrals to our growing community!
